Joseph Pehrson

Joseph Ralph Pehrson ( born August 14, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American composer and pianist.

Life

Pehrson studied composition at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Michigan and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1972, in 1973 the Master of Music and finished his studies in 1981 with the Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA). His teachers include Leslie Bassett and Joseph Schwantner and Otto Luening and Elie victory champion in New York City.

From 1992 to 1993 he was a guest composer at the University of Akron in Ohio. Together with Patrick hardish founded Pehrson 1983 Composers Concordance, Inc. in New York. In addition, he is faced with the Composers Concordance Records and is a member of the New York Composers Circle. He writes for the New Music Connoisseur, a New York-based magazine for new music of the Center for Contemporary Opera, and the American Composers Alliance.

His works include orchestral and chamber music, including electronic music. They were, inter alia, premiered by soloists Francis Orval and Carson Cooman and the ensembles American Modern Ensemble and Ensemble Sortisatio. Pehrsons music was played in many U.S. cities. It led him into the Merkin Concert Hall and Carnegie Hall. Concerts took place in Central and Eastern Europe at the ISCM World Music Days 1999, and Russia, organized by Anton Rovner.
