Joseph Rabinowitz

Joseph Rabinowitz, also Rabinovich ( born September 23, 1837 in Rezina on the Dniester, Bessarabia, Russian Empire, † May 17, 1899 in Odessa) was Russian - Jewish lawyer, the most famous Messianic Jew of the 19th century and founder of the southern Russian Christianity movement.

Life

Joseph Rabinowitz lived in Kishinev in southwest Russia ( Bessarabia ), now the capital of Moldova. He traveled to Jerusalem in 1882, to found a Jewish colony, found his conversion on the Mount of Olives. He founded in 1884 in Kishinev under the influence of a community of local pogroms " of the New Covenant Israelites ," but refused membership in a Christian church, but stressed the independence of the Jewish Christians to be independent of the Christian Church.
