Joseph Simon

Joseph Simon ( born February 7, 1851 in Bechtheim, Grand Duchy of Hesse, † February 14, 1935 in Portland, Oregon ) was an American politician ( Republican).

Simon immigrated with his parents to the United States. They settled there in 1857 settled in Portland. He studied law, was admitted to the legal profession in 1872 and then practiced in Portland. 1877 to 1880 he served on the city council. Subsequently, he was from 1880 to 1898 in the Senate Senator from Oregon, whose president he became.

Simon was from 1892 to 1896 a member of the Republican National Committee. On 8 October 1898, he was chosen for his party in the U.S. Senate to fill a vacant seat new, and remained until March 3, 1903 Senator. 1909-1911 Simon has held the office of mayor of Portland. Then he began again to practice. He died in 1935 in Portland and was buried at the Beth Israel Cemetery.
