Michael Joseph Yobo (born 6 September 1980 in Kono ) is a Nigerian football player.

Career

Yobo started his professional football career at Michellin Port- Harcourt. In 1998 he was taken from Standard Liege under contract, and there he gave his professional debut in 2000. In 2001, the Defensive Allrounder to Olympique Marseille. From there you initially lent him out to CD Tenerife. Without ever a game made for Tenerife, he was loaned out again in the following season, this time at Everton.

At Everton he could convince and was committed in the summer of 2003 for almost six million euros. Since his arrival, he is a regular player and missed in the season 2006/ 07 no minutes. In 2006 he extended his contract with Everton until 2010, May 2009 to 2014.

August 31, 2010 Yobo was loaned for one year to the Turkish first division club Fenerbahce. A call option could be pulled after one year of Fenerbahçe. Shortly before the transfer deadline on September 5, 2011 Yobo was loaned for 700,000 euros and for a further year to the Turkish first division club Fenerbahce.

Since January 30, 2014 he played on loan at English first division club Norwich City.

Yobo has played over 80 times in the Nigerian national football team. His first game he played in May 2001 against the Zambian national soccer team.

Others

He is the brother of former national player Albert Yobo. In July 2008, Joseph Yobos younger brother Norum was kidnapped in Port Harcourt from kidnappers. After two weeks, he was released.

Yobo Joseph Yobo in 2007 founded the Foundation, which helps children in Nigeria to obtain a college or university degree. By 2007 he had already distributed more than 300 scholarships. He has also founded a football academy in the Ogoni and operates together with the Everton FC Lagos a football camp.
