Josephinenlori ( Charmosyna josefinae )

The Josephinenlori ( Charmosyna josefinae ) is a species of bird in the parrot family ( psittacines ).

Description

The total length of the birds is 23 to 25 centimeters. The plumage is bright red, the bill and legs are orange. From the rear edge of the eye to above the rear top of the head and neck pulls a black, blue dashed spot. The lower abdomen, the flanks and the Beinbefiederung are black. The Josephinenlori was first described in 1873 as trichoglossus josefinae. There are known three subspecies:

  • Charmosyna josefinae cyclopum Hartert, 1930 - is in northern and central New Guinea in the Cyclops Mountains. encountered. The subspecies is missing in the black stripes on the head almost every blue and the belly is only slightly dark.

Habitat

The species inhabited forests, forest edges and partly cultivated land. It is found at altitudes 760-1770 m.

Way of life

The food of Josephinenloris consists of nectar, pollen and flower buds. About breeding behavior hardly information is known.
