Josh Lewsey

Owen Joshua Lewsey MBE ( born November 30, 1976 in Bromley ) is a former English rugby union player who was used to the positions goalkeeper and outer three-quarters. He was active for the English national team and the London Wasps.

Career

Although Lewsey was born in England and grew up, he could have played for the Welsh national team, as his parents have Welsh ancestors. He decided ultimately but for the English team. He gave 18 years to the London Wasps, where he plays to this day.

His first international game he played in 1998, when England met Australia. In 2001, he finished his training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and made two years his military service as officer from before he dedicated himself to professional rugby.

With the Six Nations 2003, he again played for England due to an injury of Jason Robinson, where he scored two tries in the game against Italy. In the next game against Scotland he managed another attempt. At the end of the tournament, he celebrated with the team winning the Grand Slam. In the following, he took part in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in the 7- rugby.

Prior to the 2003 World Cup he belonged to the tribe formation in the friendlies against New Zealand and Australia. He has now been used as a goalkeeper, since Jason Robinson had moved to the outer three-quarter position. At the World Cup Lewsey played a supporting role, scoring five tries against Uruguay. By winning the title, he celebrated the biggest success of his career.

With the Six Nations 2004 he was elected the Match against Scotland player of the day. During the tournament he scored two tries, one against the Scots. Against Italy and a The following year he was first part of a tour of the British and Irish Lions, with him also get two attempts, but not the way in his statistics were as they were obtained in a test match against a regional selection.

In 2006 he got from coach Brian Ashton take a break while the national team played some matches in the summer. Lewsey took the time to go climbing in the Himalayas. However, he did not inform his hometown club from London, as this would have hardly allowed his expedition.

At the 2007 World Championships Lewsey was again part of the England squad and played up to an injury in the semi-final against France all games. Against the French he put through his attempt in the second minutes early the foundations for the finals of the English. In 2008, he was under new coach Martin Johnson for extended circle of the national team, but came to no further use. At the end of the year he announced his retirement from international rugby. At the end of the season 2008/ 09 he stopped with the club rugby and will be dedicated to mountain climbing before he will be a consultant with the firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.
