Josh Roseman

Joshua " Josh " Roseman ( born June 5, 1972 in Boston) is an American jazz trombonist (including tuba, euphonium, bass, drums, piano ) and music educator.

Life and work

Roseman comes from a musical family and studied at Berklee and the New England Conservatory of Music; an important mentor for him was Lester Bowie. During this time he played with Joe Maneri, Muhal Richard Abrams, George Russell, Bob Moses and the Either / Orchestra. Since the 1990s, he worked for the New York downtown scene among others in ensembles such as Brooklyn Funk Essentials, James Carney Group, Peter Apfelbaum & The New York Hieroglyphics, Rob Reddy 's Honor System, Samo Salamon NYC Quintet, Don Byron and in the SFJAZZ Collective. He co-founded the acid jazz band The Groove Collective and Giant Step. With its polystylistic Josh Roseman Unit increased in 2003 Treats for the Nightwalker on a total of 23 musicians, including Chris Potter, Liberty Ellman, Myron Walden and Mark Feldman. In 2007, he put on Enja before the album New Constellations ( Live In Vienna ), which was also the trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire participated. He continues to be recorded with Uri Caine, Lettuce and Sheryl Crow. As a music educator, he worked among others at the New School For Social Research, the Harlem School for the Arts and the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada. Roseman lives in Brooklyn, New York.
