Joshua A. Lowell

Joshua Adams Lowell ( born March 20, 1801 in Thomaston, Knox County, Massachusetts, † March 13, 1874 in East Machias, Maine ) was an American politician. Between 1839 and 1843 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Born in present-day Maine Joshua Lowell attended the common schools and worked as a teacher. After a subsequent study of law and its made ​​in 1826 admitted to the bar, he began practicing in his new profession in East Machias. Politically, Lowell was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1832 to 1837 he sat several times as a delegate in the House of Representatives from Maine.

1838 Lowell was in the seventh constituency of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he entered on March 4, 1839, the successor of Joseph C. Noyes of the Whig party. After a re-election in 1840 he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1841 two legislative sessions. Since 1841 he was chairman of the committee responsible for supervising the expenditure of the Post Ministry. During this time, the discussions about a possible annexation of the independent Republic of Texas since 1836 have increased.

In 1842, Lowell opted not to run again. In the following years he worked again as a lawyer. He died on 13 March 1874 in East Machias, and was also buried there.
