Joshua Bell

Joshua David Bell ( born December 9, 1967 in Bloomington, Indiana) is an American violinist.

Life

Since his Carnegie Hall debut in 1985 he has appeared with virtually every major orchestra and conductors of our time around the world. In addition to the standard classical repertoire, he has performed numerous modern and contemporary works, including several specially composed for him.

Special Joshua Bell gained fame through the recording of the original score by John Corigliano for the Oscar-winning soundtrack of the film " The Red Violin " in 1998 and the music for the film " Ladies in Lavender " in 2004.

Bells Violin is the built in 1713 by Antonio Stradivari so-called Gibson ex Huberman ', known for its theft from the Carnegie Hall dressing room of the former owner and violinist Bronislaw Huberman in 1936. Washington Post experiment

On January 12, 2007 was Joshua Bell protagonist of an experiment by the Washington Post: In street clothes, wearing a baseball cap on his head and his Stradivarius violin in hand, he stood incognito in a subway station in Washington, DC and played for 43 minutes pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Schubert and other classical composers. The experiment was recorded with a hidden camera and gave the following result: Of 1,097 people who walked past him, only seven stopped to listen to him, and only one recognized him. Some have thrown him money in the open violin case, $ 32.17 in total ( plus another $ 20 from a person who has recognized him - these shall be evaluated separately ). Journalist Gene Weingarten has received for his article in which he described the experiment and commented on the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for Journalism ( feature writing ).
