Joshua Redman

Joshua Redman ( born February 1, 1969 in Berkeley, California) is an American jazz saxophonist.

Life and work

The son of saxophonist Dewey Redman attended Berkeley High School where he played in the school jazz band under Charles Hamilton, and studied from 1987 to 1991 at Harvard University. There he worked during the semester break with musicians from the Berklee College of Music and made ​​an appearance with Delfeayo Marsalis.

In 1991 he went to New York City, where he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. In the following years he performed with musicians such as Elvin Jones, Charlie Haden, Jack DeJohnette, Pat Metheny and Roy Hargrove.
