Josiah Kerr

Josiah Leeds Kerr ( born January 10, 1861 in Vienna, Dorchester County, Maryland, † September 27, 1920 in Cambridge, Maryland ) was an American politician. In the years 1900 and 1901, he represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Josiah Kerr attended the public schools of his home. In 1880 he moved to Crisfield, where he was employed in the management of working in the wood industry company. Five years later, Kerr settled in Cambridge. Between 1898 and 1900 he was inspector of schools ( School Examiner ). Politically, he joined the Republican Party.

Following the resignation of Mr John Walter Smith Kerr was at the due election for the first seat of Maryland as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on November 6, 1900. Since he resigned at the regular congressional elections of 1900, a further candidacy, he could only finish the current term in Congress until March 3, 1901.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Josiah Kerr returned to Cambridge. In the following years he worked as a traveling salesman. He died on 27 September 1920 in Cambridge, where he was also buried.
