Journal of Medicinal Chemistry

The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry is a journal of the science branch of medical chemistry. The original title was Journal of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and in 1963 shortened to the present title. The founder of the magazine and its first editor in chief from 1959 up to and including 1971 Alfred Burger. In the next forty years, Philip Portoghese led the magazine. With the beginning of 2012 Gunda Georg and Shaomeng Wang took over the editorship.

The Impact Factor was in 2012 at 5,614. According to the statistics of the ISI Web of Knowledge, the journal impact factor with this in the category of medicinal chemistry is out in third place out of 59 journals.

In 2010, the offshoot Medicinal Chemistry Letters was founded.
