Joy of all who Sorrow Church, Druskininkai

The Church of the Mother of God icon "Joy for all sorrowing " is a Russian Orthodox wooden church in the Lithuanian town of Druskininkai.

It was built in 1861-1865, after the place had become a well-known health resort for Russians. The main donors for the church was Mikhail Kutuzov Illarionovich. His granddaughter KATERINA sponsored the iconostasis. The region was occupied during World War II by the Poles and evolved into a center for Belarusian emigrants.

The church was closed in 1944 by the Soviet Union, but re-opened in 1947 and already renovated ten years later. In the late 1980s, during the Soviet period, it was renovated again.

The church is externally painted blue. Various icons and religious images underline the magnificent interior of the church.
