Joyce Anelay, Baroness Anelay of St Johns

Joyce Anne Anelay, Baroness Anelay of St Johns DBE, PC ( born July 17, 1947) is a British politician ( Conservative Party ).

Life and career

She was born on 17 July 1947 as Joyce Anne Clarke and attended Enfield County School and Bristol University. From 1969 to 1974 she worked as a teacher. Later she worked as a volunteer adviser at the Citizens' Advice Bureau and was Justice of the Peace of Northwest Surrey from 1985 to 1997, and member of the Social Security Tribunal in 1983 to 1996.

Anelay from 1989 to 1996 Member of the Social Security Advisory Committee for Great Britain and Northern Ireland. From 1991 to 1994 she was a member of the Women's National Commission, and from 1993 to 1996 the Child Support Appeal Tribunal. At the World Travel Market 2003 to 2008 she was President.

In the following years she held various higher party posts in the Conservative Party. She was 1987-1990 chairman of the South East Area Conservative Women's Committee. 1987 to 1997 she served on the National Union Executive Committee Conservative Party, from 1990 to 1993 she was deputy chairman of the SE Area Executive Committee. In 1993 she took over the presidency of the Women's National Committee; this office she held until 1996. From 1996 to 1997 she worked as Vice President of the National Union.

Was Anelay on 14 October 1996 Life Peeress appointed in the County of Surrey as Baroness Anelay of St Johns, of St Johns. Your official introduction to the House of Lords took place with the support of Joan Seccombe, Baroness Seccombe and Doreen Miller, Baroness Miller of Hendon on 5 November 1996. Anelay held her inaugural speech on 13 November 1996.

From 1997 to 1998 she was a whip of the opposition. She was opposition spokesperson for several areas, from 1997 to 1998 for agricultural, 1997-1998 for domestic policy. 1997 to 1999 for Social Security, 1998-2002 for Culture, Media and Sport, 2002-2007 again for domestic policy, 2003-2004 for legal matters. Baroness Anelay was from 2007 to the election of the Conservatives in 2010 Chief Whip of the Opposition in the House of Lords. Since 2008, she was also Deputy Speaker of the House and Deputy Chairman of Committees.

Anelay is married to Richard Anelay since 1970, a leading barrister for family and criminal law, the head ( Head ) of the 1 King 's Bench Walk Chambers and Deputy High Court Judge.
