JÅyÅ kanji
The Jōyō Kanji (Japanese常用 汉字" frequently used characters " ) is an official list of 2,136 kanji from the year 2010, which are binding on authorities, the media and schools. This list is a revised version of the existing of 1,945 Kanji Jōyō kanji list from 1981, which Toyo Kanji replaced at that time ( 1,850 Kanji comprehensive ) (当 用 汉字" characters for general use " ) from 1946.
Official texts and many newspapers are generally limited to these characters and give all other terms in Cana again. Comes in a text before a kanji that does not belong to the Jōyō Kanji, then the debate by furigana is often described, especially in writings that appeal to a wide audience. In addition to the Jōyō Kanji there are 861 kanji that are officially only for use in Japanese name: the Jinmeiyō Kanji.
The following list gives the Jōyō Kanji in the order of the school year in which they stand on the Japanese curriculum. For the primary school there is a fixed assignment of 1,006 kanji to six years of primary school; for the following middle school is no longer such assignment, but need to graduation all the characters of the list have been learned.

The revision of the list in 2010, some characters and readings were added or removed.
