Jozef-Ernest van Roey

Jozef -Ernest van Roey Cardinal ( born January 13, 1874 in Vorselaar, Belgium, † August 6, 1961 in Mechelen ) was Archbishop of Mechelen.

Life

Jozef -Ernest van Roey received his philosophical and theological formation at the Seminary of Mechelen and at the Catholic University of Leuven. He received on 18 September 1897, the sacrament of Holy Orders and, after completion of ongoing studies from 1901 to 1905 as a lecturer at the " Collège Americaine ". From 1905 to 1907 he taught at the University of Leuven. In 1907 he received the appointment as honorary canon of Mechelen and the vocation to the Vicar General.

On March 12, 1926, Jozef -Ernest van Roey by Pope Pius XI. appointed Archbishop of Mechelen. He received his episcopal consecration on April 25, 1926, the Apostolic Nuncio in Belgium, Clemente Micara. His motto was In nomine Domini.

Pope Pius XI. appointed him on 12 September 1929 the first Grand Prior and governor of the company founded in 1926 Belgian Lieutenancy of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem, headquartered at the Cathedral of Notre- Dame du Sablon / Onze Lieve - Vrouw - ten Sablon in Brussels.

Already on June 20, 1927, Pope Pius XI. him as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli in the College of Cardinals. Both in 1939 and in 1958 took Jozef -Ernest van Roey part in the conclave.

Jozef -Ernest van Roey was buried in the Mechlin Cathedral.
