Józef Rymer

Józef Rymer ( born February 9, 1882 in Zabelkau at Ratibor; † December 5, 1922 in Katowice ) was a Polish politician.

Life

Rymer came from a simple Upper Silesian family and grew up in rather poor circumstances. At 16 he left home to work as a miner in Westphalia. There he became involved at the same time socially and politically in several Polish dominated organizations, such as the gymnastics club " Sokol " ( Towarzystwo Gimnastyczne " Sokol " ) and the Public Library Association ( Towarzystwo Czytelni Ludowych ). 1902, when in Westphalia the Polish professional association ( Zjednoczenie zawodowe Polskie ) was founded, Rymer founded a branch of this organization in Dellwig and was its director. In 1907 he went up to the board on in Bochum and in 1909 the first president of the organization, at the same time he also headed the press office. He represented Polish miners in international working meetings (eg during the congress in Paris, Herne and the Metal Workers Congress in Bochum).

In 1913 he returned to Silesia, Katowice, back to where he continued his activities and president of the headquarters of the Polish professional association ( Centralny Zarząd Zjednoczenia Zawodowego Polskiego ) was. In 1918 he was also the Supreme People's Council ( Rada Naczelna Ludowa ) in Poznan active, the same year he became vice - president of the National Workers Party ( Narodowe Stronnictwo Robotnicze ). He participated in the founding of the Upper Silesian Supreme People's Council ( Rada Naczelna Ludowa Górnego Śląska ) and became its leader.

As a negotiator of the main folk Council he represented Poland twice during the Paris Conference Upper Silesia. In 1919 he became a deputy of the Polish National Assembly, and later representatives of the Polish Plebiszitkommissars. Shortly before the second Silesian Uprising he was beaten up by German combat troops, later there was also an attempt to shoot him in his office. Rymer participated in the 3rd Silesian Uprising in part as a member of the civil administration. In 1922, he became the first Voivode of the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship in Poland. He died on 5 December 1922, leaving behind his wife Teresa ( nee Kozubek ) and nine children.
