József Borovnyák

József Borovnyák; Slovene Jožef Borovnjak; ( Born February 9, 1826 in Ivanovci, Moravske Toplice, Kingdom of Hungary, now Slovenia, † September 19, 1909 in Cankova, today Slovenia ) was a Slovene writer, politician and Catholic priest in Hungary. Borovnyák was the reformer of the prekmurischen literary language in the 19th century.

Life

Borovnyák was the son of an innkeeper István Borovnyák and Katalin Gombossy. Six high school classes he attended in Kőszeg, the 7th and 8th grade in Szombathely, where he finished in 1851 to study theology and was ordained a priest on July 13. Immediately after ordination he was five months administrator Apátistvánfalva next Szentgotthárd. He then spent two months in Lendava Kaplan and worked until 1857 in Črenšovci. By July 20 was Borovnyák Kaplan in Olsnitz ( Murska Sobota ) and Sankt Georgen ( Sveti Jurij, Rogašovci ). Then he was appointed parish priest of cold Brunn, a position he held until his death. Since 1893 he was also Dean of Olsnitz.

Work

Borovnyák is the author of religious and political works. Under organized literary projects, the most important are the editors of Miklós Küzmicss book Kniga molitvena ( prayer book), Veliki katekizmus ( Large Catechism ) and two new prayer books. Next he had the editors of the edition of the prayer book by József Kossics Jezus moje poželenje (Jesus my desire ) and the output of Küzmicss Gospels held.

Literary and cultural prestige reached Borovnyák also through his work on literary, vermittlerischem and kulturinformatorischen area. As a priest he was conscious nationally at the beginning of the 1860s subscriber prekmurischer magazines and soon their propagators. Borovnyák was disseminator of Mohorsbüchern of Carinthia.
