József Szájer

Dr. József Szájer ( born September 7, 1961 in Sopron, Hungary) is a Hungarian politician and since 2004 a member of the European Parliament for the conservative right-wing Fidesz party, which belongs to the Group of the European People's Party.

József Szájer studied until 1986 at the Faculty of Political Science and Law of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest and then worked as a teacher at this university. He scored 1988 on the founding members of Fidesz party, which he belongs to this day. From 1990 to 1994 and from 2002 to 2004 he was Deputy Chairman, 1994-2002 Chairman of the Group of his party in the Hungarian Parliament and from 1996 to 2003 vice- president of the party. In 2004 he was elected to the European Parliament for Fidesz, where he has since been holding the position of Deputy Chairman of the Group of the European People's Party. In the European Parliament he has been in the committees for legal affairs (since 2004), the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (2004 to 2007) and constitutional issues involved (since 2007), also in the delegations of the European Parliament for relations with the United States ( since 2009) and the Mercosur countries ( since 2004).

Szájer was involved in 2011 as Chairman of the Constitutional Committee, instrumental in the drafting of the new Hungarian constitution. At the same time, he was Chairman, National Advisory Committee, asked the Hungarian population using questionnaires on individual aspects of the new constitution.

József Szájer is married. His wife is Tunde Handó, President of the Hungarian National Court Office. The couple has a daughter.
