Jørgen Haagen Schmith

Jørgen Haagen Schmith (* December 18, 1910, † October 15, 1944 Gentofte ) was a Danish resistance fighter during World War II, who led the alias citric. He was a member of the group Holger Danske and led, together with his friend Bent Faurschou - Hviid, called Flame, spectacular actions.

Before the war he was employed by a theater in Copenhagen. From 1942 he worked in a factory from Citroën in Copenhagen South Harbour, where he began acting alone, to damage German vehicles. In 1943 he came into contact with a resistance group who quickly got confidence in him. He joined them and got his pseudonym citric associated with an act of sabotage at Citroën, in seven German vehicles were destroyed.

From October 1943 he spent several months in Sweden. Upon his return, the collaboration began with flame. Together they liquidated people who were suspected of betraying members of the resistance to the Germans. Schmith also organized escape routes to Sweden.

On 19 September 1944, citric disguised as a Danish policeman. Since the Danish police was arrested, unfortunately, on the same day, he also was arrested, but without being recognized, but he managed to escape injured.

Jørgen Haagen Schmith died after a violent, hour-long firefight, when the Gestapo tried on October 15, 1944 in the apartment in the Jægersborg Allé north of Copenhagen penetrate, in which he had his sickbed.
