History

The discovery of gold in the Witwatersrand in 1886 led to the creation of many mining companies and financial service providers, which soon increased the demand for an exchange. The Johannesburg Exchange & Chambers Company was founded by the London businessman Benjamin Minors Woollan, from which on 8 November 1887, the JSE was born. Over the years, the stock market moved often and had to act because of lack of space, sometimes on the road. In 1963 she became a member of the Federation International Bourses de Valeurs ( FIBV ).
