Juan Álvarez de Toledo

Juan Álvarez de Toledo y Alva ( born July 15, 1488 Toledo, † September 15, 1557 in Rome) was a Spanish Dominican monk, bishop and cardinal.

Life

Cardinal Álvarez was the son of Don Fadrique Álvarez de Toledo, second Duke of Alba and his wife Isabel de Zúñiga. His brothers were the Spanish Admiral Don García Álvarez de Toledo and the Viceroy of Naples, Don Pedro Álvarez de Toledo, his nephew was the famous as governor of the Netherlands Fernando Álvarez de Toledo, Duke of Alba. 1507, he joined the San Esteban convent in Salamanca the Dominican Order at. His studies took him to the Colegio de San Gregorio in Valladolid and at the University of Paris. 1513 he was appointed by the general chapter of his order in Genoa as a professor of theology to Salamanca.
