Juan Fremiot Torres Oliver

Juan Fremiot Torres Oliver ( born October 28, 1925 in San Germán, † 26 January, 2012 Ponce ) was a Puerto Rican clergyman and Roman Catholic Bishop of Ponce.

Life

Juan Torres Fremiot Oliver received on 10 April 1950, the ordained priest for the Diocese of Ponce. He was a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico ( Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico ) and Chancellor, founding dean and namesake of the law faculty.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on November 4, 1964 Bishop of Ponce. The Archbishop of New York Cardinal Francis Joseph Spellman dedicated it on 21 December of the same year the bishop; Luis Aponte Martínez were co-consecrators, Archbishop of San Juan de Puerto Rico, and Alfredo José Isaac Cecilio Francesco Mendez -Gonzalez, CSC, Bishop of Arecibo.

He took part in the last session of the Second Vatican Council. From 1983 to 1994 he was president of the Conferencia Episcopal Puertorriqueña.

On 10 November 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation age-related.
