Juan Martínez de Jáuregui y Aguilar

Juan de Jáuregui (* November 24, 1583 in Seville, † January 11, 1641 in Madrid) was a Spanish poet.

Juan de Jáuregui came from an old family from the province of Biscay and was born in Seville. He went to Rome in order to train there in the painting, but at the same time dealt a lot with poetry and made 1607 a translation of Torquato Tasso's Aminta ( pastoral poetry ) appear, which made well known his name.

Having returned to his native country, he was equerry to the Queen Isabella, the first wife of Philip IV. With nearly 80 years Jáuregui died in January 1649 in Madrid.
