Juan Pablo Ãngel
Juan Pablo Ángel Arango ( born October 21, 1975 in Medellín ) is a Colombian national football team.
Career
Atlético Nacional and River Plate
Angel began his careers as a footballer with Atlético Nacional in his native city of Medellín. He gained national prominence in 1994 when he scored the winning goal against local rivals Independiente Medellín, which among other things resulted that Nacional was able to win the championship. Overall, the striker was 174mal for Atlético Nacional on the court, scoring 45 goals. With the Colombians he was also second in the Copa Libertadores in 1995 and won the Copa Interamericana in 1997.
He was sold to River Plate in January 1998. For the Argentines, he should replace Hernán Crespo, who moved to FC Parma in 1996. To show their appreciation for the Colombians, the audience of River Plate adorned often with angel wings.
Aston Villa
On 12 January 2001 Aston Villa Juan Pablo Ángel secured for the record fee of £ 9.5 million. During his time at Villa, he was the highest paid players on the team. After a bad start in the British and private problems he could develop into a key player of the team. Ángel quickly became a fan favorite and was in the 2003/2004 season the best scorer of the team. In the 2004/2005 season he could not keep this form and scored only 7 goals in the Premier League. During his time at Villa, he scored 74 goals in 205 games ( league and cup ). Dwight Yorke is the only player who scored more goals for Villa as Ángel.
New York Red Bulls
On 17 April 2007, published the New York Red Bulls, that Angel should be required. The second "designated player" of the team was on May 8, 2007 at the U.S. Open Cup debut for the MLS franchise. He came off the bench and scored a free kick the first goal in the 3-1 defeat against Los Angeles Galaxy.
On 19 May 2007, he first met the goal in a Major League Soccer game. 4-0 victory against the Columbus Crew, he prepared another goal and was instrumental in the third goal. Due to his performance in this game, he was appointed MLS Player of the Week. In the following games, he has been proven his scoring prowess to the test. He was appointed in May Player of the Month and was also part of the squad for the MLS All -Star Game against Celtic Glasgow. The 2-0 victory, he scored the first goal for the national team and was subsequently appointed as the player of the game. In his first season for the Red Bulls, he scored a total of 19 goals in 24 games during the regular season. In the scoresheet, he took second place behind Luciano Emilio.
Due to nerve injury at the back he missed the start of the 2008 season. On 10 May 2008, he scored his first goal of the season for New York. On June 5, in pain, he scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory against Chivas USA. Then he limped off the field. By further injury, he fell out of the next four games. Nevertheless, he was appointed by Steve Nicol for the MLS All -Star Game against West Ham United. At the end of the season he scored 14 goals in 23 games.
His third season in Major League Soccer was the worst so far for New York Red Bulls. It was pretty clear that the team can not qualify for the play- offs and in the CONCACAF Champions League was the early exit in the group stage. Nevertheless, Ángel had a big moment on 26 September 2009, he made his 46th goal for the team in a game against Chivas USA. He broke the record by Clint Mathis, who scored a total of 45 goals for the MetroStars and Red Bulls. This season he had 12 goals with the best scorer of the team.
The 2010 season was for Juan Pablo Ángel much better. In the first half of the season he came up with 11 goals in 19 games. In the second half, he scored only two more goals. With the team he made the victory in the Eastern Conference.
On 11 November 2010 it was announced that Angel will no longer play for the New York Red Bulls.
Los Angeles Galaxy
After the 2010 season, the Red Bulls beat the option to extend his contract. This he took in December 2010 on the MLS Re - Entry Draft part. On December 15, he was selected by Los Angeles Galaxy. On 19 January 2011 Ángel changed officially to the Californians. He received a contract for several years and is now the third " Designated Player" at Galaxy.
CD Chivas USA
On August 17, Ángel switched to the CD Chivas USA. Galaxy Designated Player needed his status to Robbie Keane can undertake. For Chivas, he scored 7 goals in 9 matches in the 2011 season.
Return to Colombia
On January 23, 2013 Angels move to Atlético Nacional was announced. He signed a one year contract with option to extend. With Atlético Nacional he won in the first year just three titles: two championships and the Cup victory.
National
From 1996 to 2006 he was part of the Colombian national football team. During this time he participated with the team in the qualification for the FIFA World Cups in 2002 and 2006.
