Juan Piquer Simón

Juan Piquer Simón ( born February 16, 1935 in Valencia, † January 8, 2011 ) was a Spanish film director.

Life

Piquer Simón studied at the Instituto de Investigaciones Cinematográficas in Madrid and then got a job as a cameraman at TV Espana. In 1959 he founded the production company Cinedinter, with which he produced commercials. For almost two decades he turned alongside documentaries, until he 1976 ( for smaller earlier trials ) with the Jules Verne film Viaje al centro de la tierra dared to enter the feature film and continued after the great success. He remained with his films almost entirely in the science fiction and horror field.

With the founding of the movie studios Piquer he could independently and with great control over all stages of production of his films, which were ridiculed by the critics often work. In 1999 he produced as the end of his career, a television series in its screenplay.

Piquer Simón often used the pseudonyms JP Simon and Alfredo Casado.
