Jubilee Church
The Church Dio Padre Misericordioso (Italian for: God, the merciful Father, Latin: Dei Patris misericordis, also called Chiesa del Giubileo ) is a modern church in the Roman neighborhood of Tor Tre Teste ( between Via Casilina and Prenestina ) and was built according to the plans of U.S. architect Richard Meier and inaugurated in 2003.
Building
Dio Padre Misericordioso was created as part of a construction program of the Diocese of Rome, who wanted to create churches of high architectural quality in the outskirts of the city for the Jubilee Year 2000. After the diocese was dissatisfied with the results of a first open competition, six star architects were invited for the second competition specifically: Tadao Ando, Günter Behnisch, Santiago Calatrava, Peter Eisenman, Frank Gehry and Richard Meier. In May 1996, the jury decided in favor of Meier's design.
The Church is the title diakonia of Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe.
The church building, with 40 m length and 31 m width rather small, represents a highly stylized ship with three sails. The sails have a height of 17, 22 and 27 m. The church tower is 20 m high. Equipment
The organ was built in 2003 by the organ builder Organaria Romana. The instrument consists of a three-manual electronic organ and also has 9 -sounding whistle stops on two manual works.
