Jucu

Jucu (Hungarian Zsuk ) is a municipality in the district of Cluj in Transylvania in Romania. The community consists of five villages; Parish seat is Jucu de Sus (Hungarian Felsőzsuk or Oláhzsuk ), which is united with Jucu de Jos since 1968.

Geographical location

In the center of the circle Cluj is the community on Somesul Mic ( Small Somes ) - a source of the river Somes -, in the west of the Transylvanian Basin. Located in the historic district chair Mocs (now Mociu ) of Cluj county, on the railway line Apahida -Dej and European Route 576, the community is located about 18 kilometers north of the county town of Cluj -Napoca ( Cluj ); the small town Gherla located approximately 25 kilometers north of Jucu away.

History

The place Jucu de Sus was first mentioned in documents in 1325. On the basis of archaeological finds on the site of Jucu de Sus ( a grave near the train station ), however backdate to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, according to I. martian the history of the colonization of the region. On the territory of the municipality were, according to E. Orosz, M. Roska, G. Finaly, among others made more numerous archaeological finds, including obsidian and flint Neolithic times.

In the Middle Ages the town was a Hungarian village. Since about 1660 the place Jucu de Sus of majority Romanian population is colonized. The landowner Suky László (1741-1791) founded the Unitarian church of the village. The noble family Suky was one of the most influential and wealthiest in Transylvania.

The highest number of Romanians ( 5,027 ) in 1956, that of Hungary ( 983 ) in 1941, the Germans ( 29) - 14 of them in Gădălin - 1900, and the Roma ( 109) 1850 counted. Economy

In the summer of 2007 began with the creation of an industrial area, in which the Romanian state has invested about 33 million euros. The mobile phone manufacturer Nokia took here in February 2008 on its production. Of the 159 hectares of the industrial zone Nokia uses 90 acres. The production facility Nokia factory Cluj replaced, provided for the closure of Nokia factory in Bochum. As part of the development of industrial parks and related land speculation the mayor Petre Coste was suspended and arrested on corruption charges in 2007.

Nokia announced in September 2011 that the site in Romania will be closed at the end of 2011.

In Jucu is a medium wave transmitter of the Romanian Radio. He beams at the frequency of 909 kHz from the fourth program with 200 kW output power and used as a transmitting antenna a 165 meter high radio mast.
