Judith of Schweinfurt

Judith of Schweinfurt (also Guta, Czech Jitka ze ze Schweinfurtu or Svinibrodu; * before 1003; † August 2, 1058 in Hungary) was by marriage a duchess from Bohemia.

Judith, daughter of Margrave Heinrich from the Bavarian Nordgau and Gerberga of Henneberg, daughter of Count Otto II of Henneberg, was married to Břetislavova I, Duke of Bohemia.

Your youth spent according to contemporary information beautiful, graceful young woman in the family convent in Schweinfurt, where she moved with their education. There she met Břetislavova, son of the Bohemian duke Oldrich and his wife Bozena derived from the people know, and fell in love with him.

However, he was clear that he, due to its origin, had no way to hold her hand. On July 7, 1021 by Judith Břetislavova was first kidnapped and later to Bohemia to Moravia, where the Germans had not so strong power position. 1029 both married in Olomouc, leading, judging by the historians, a happy marriage.

Judith gave birth to her husband five sons: Spytihněv, Vratislav, Konrad, Jaromír and Otto I the Handsome ( Czech Ota I. ).

After the death of her husband she was driven by her son Spytihněv 1055 out of the country and spent the rest of her life in Hungary. After her death, her remains were transferred by the Duke Vratislav II in Prague and was buried in St. Vitus Cathedral.

According to legend, she should have married in Hungary Peter Orseolo (but this died in 1046/47 ).
