Judy Davis

Judy Davis ( born April 23, 1955 in Perth, Australia) is an Australian actress.

Life

Judy Davis graduated in 1977 and trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art from Sydney, where she studied in a vintage together with Mel Gibson. Together they played in the drama school the title roles in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. After her film debut in coal, coke and hot curves ( 1977), she was best known for the role of Sybylla Melvyn in My Brilliant Career (1979). With this film she took part in the competition at the International Film Festival of Cannes in 1979 and was the first time to introduce a broad international public. In 1995 she became the first actress to Chlotrudis Award.

Davis received two Academy Award nominations for Best Actress in A Passage to India (1984) and Best Supporting Actress in Husbands and Wives (1992 ), as well as 32 ​​other film and television awards. Most recently, she was awarded at the Emmy Awards in 2007 for the role of Joan McAllister in the television series The Starter Wife with the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie. Although it is considered as one of the best actresses, she gave up a move to Hollywood.

Judy Davis is married to actor Colin Friels since 1984 and has two children, Jack and Charlotte.
