Juergen Sommer

Juergen Sommer ( born February 27, 1969 in New York City ) is a former American football player. He played on the position of the goalkeeper.

Career as a player

Summer attended the High School of the Culver Military Academy in Culver (Indiana) and played in the local school team. Because of his achievements, he was also appointed to the All-American team selection.

He then attended Indiana University in 1987, where very quickly goalkeeper of the College Crew. After he was named 1990 Collegiate Goalkeeper of the Year, moved to England in 1991 to Luton Town in the then Football League First Division. In the next 6 years he played for several English clubs, such as Torquay United and Queens Park Rangers.

In 1998, Summer returned to the U.S., where he played until 1999 for the Columbus Crew. After he had lost his place in the 1999 season due to knee injuries, he moved to the 2000 season to the New England Revolution. Previously, he completed a game for Connecticut Wolves in the USISL A-League. After another injury, he finished in the fall of 2002 his career as a football player. In February 2001 he was on loan for a game in goal for Bolton Wanderers, after there had violated none of the goalkeepers.

Overall, graduated Summer 10 caps for the national team of the United States. He was part of the U.S. squad at the World Championships in 1994 and 1998, came there but not used.

Coaching career

Summer, who has a USSF "A" coaching license, was from 2004 to 2007 assistant coach at Indiana University. Subsequently, he was goalkeeper coach of the U.S. National Soccer Team of 2007 to 2010. Moreover, he betreuete various youth teams of the Carmel United Soccer Club. Besides his work as a trainer, summer was a long time member of the United States Soccer Federation 's Athletes Council and is a member of the U.S. Soccer Foundation 's Board of Directors since 2011.

In June 2013 the summer was confirmed as the new coach of the U.S. team Indy Eleven. In addition to his Trainerträtigkeit is also the responsible Director of Soccer Operations.

Private

Summer lives in Carmel (Indiana) with his wife, Susie, and his two sons, Tommy and Noah.
