Juha Kankkunen

Juha Kankkunen Matti Pellervo [ juhɑ kɑŋk unɛn ː ] ( born April 2, 1959 in Laukaa, Finland ) is one of the most successful rally driver of motorsport history.

Kankkunen won a total of 23 WRC rallies, ran 75 times on the podium and was four times World Rally Champion, 1986, 1987, 1991 and 1993. His first world championship race won Kankkunen 1985, the Safari Rally in Kenya on a Toyota Celica Turbo TC, his last in 1999, the 1000 lakes Rally in Finland on a Subaru Impreza WRC. In 1988, he won the Dakar Rally with Peugeot. Also in 1988 won Kankkunen the first event of the Race of Champions. He could repeat this success in 1991.

Juha Kankkunen ended his rally career in 2002 with a 9th place provisionally in the Rally of Great Britain. Like his rally colleague and compatriot Markku Alén Kankkunen took some time with a BMW M3 Rally Cross racing in the native Finland part. Kankkunen finished second in the Super Series 2004 Rallicross behind Alén third overall. , 2010, Kankkunen a comeback in the World Rally Championship and went in the Rally Finland with a Ford Focus of the Stobart team at the start. He finished the rally in eighth place and thus took four championship points.

He now lives in Finland, Spain and Monaco.
