Juhan Aavik

Juhan Aavik ( born January 29, 1884 in Tallinn, † November 26, 1982 in Stockholm) was an Estonian composer.

Aavik studied composition at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory. He then worked as a conductor in Tartu, Estonia, from 1928 to 1944 as a professor and director of the Conservatory in Tallinn. 1944 moved Aavik to Sweden, where he became conductor of the Estonian song festivals in 1948 until 1961.

He created more than 200 works, including two symphonies, a cello concerto (1949 ), a double bass concerto ( 1950); a trio for piano (1957 ) and Requiem (1959). He also published several choral works, songs and chamber music pieces. In the years 1965 to 1969, he published a four-volume in Stockholm Estonian music history.
