Jukka Porvari

Jukka Porvari ( born January 19, 1954 in Tampere ) is a retired Finnish professional ice hockey player who has in his time from 1974 to 1991 played Devils in the National Hockey League, among others, for the Colorado Rockies and New Jersey.

Career

Jukka Porvari began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Tappara Tampere, for its professional team in the SM- sarja and in 1975 he was active from 1974 to 1981, first in their successor SM- liiga competition. With Tappara the attacker gained during this period in the years 1975, 1977 and 1979 the Finnish championship and in 1976, 1978 and 1981 with his team runner-up. At the European level, he finished with his team in 1980 to second place in European competition behind the Russian representatives HK CSKA Moscow. In Tappara he was not only one of the best players of his team, but the league and he was in 1978, 1980 and 1981, elected three times to the All-Star team of the SM- liiga.

On July 8, 1981 Porvari signed a contract as a free agent with the Colorado Rockies of the National Hockey League. In his rookie year, the 1981/82 season, he scored two goals for the Rockie in 31 games and had six assists. In parallel, he came to two inserts for their farm team Fort Worth Texans in the Central Hockey League. After the season, the franchise was relocated and the Finnish national team joined its successor Team New Jersey Devils. In this he was only sporadically used and had to increasingly play for their farm team CHL Wichita Wind, so he still left the NHL again during the 1982/83 season and the Klagenfurt AC in the Austrian Hockey League joined.

From 1983 to 1986 Porvari stood at TPS Turku in the SM- liiga under contract by which he once again was runner-up in 1985. In the following years he let his career end with unterklassigen teams. From 1986 to 1988, he spent two seasons at TuTo hockey in the second class I divisioona. Then he signed at third division Kiekko -67 Turku, with him came in 1989 Earned promotion to the I divisioona. In Kiekko - 67 of the Olympian finished by 1980, finally following the season 1990/91 at the age of 37 years of his career.

Internationally

For Finland Porvari participated exclusively at the Junior World Cup in 1974 at junior level. In the senior level, he stood in his country's squad at the World Championships in 1977, 1978, 1979 and 1981, and at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid and 1981 the Canada Cup.
