Jules Malou

Jules Edouard Xavier Malou (* October 19, 1810 in Ypres, † July 11, 1886 in Sint -Lambrechts -Woluwe ) was a Belgian statesman.

Life

Malou studied in Liege, in 1840 Director of the Ministry of Justice and worked since 1841 as a member of the Second Chamber, where he represented the interests of the ultramontane party. In 1844 he was appointed governor of Antwerp and on July 30, 1845 on the side of liberal Sylvain van de Weyer of Finance. When the ministerial crisis in March 1846, he was indeed in office, but laid in 1847 after the failure of the liberal elections his portfolio down. In 1850 he was re-elected to the chamber, and belonged to since the heads of the clerical party. From 1862 to 1864 he was a member of the Senate. He was Minister of Finance and the end of 1871, although not by name, the head of the ultramontane Ministry, which held up until June 1878. After Malou was leader of clerical opposition in the Chamber of Deputies. 1884 Prime Minister, he eliminated the liberal school rules, but aroused by such indignation in the cities that the klerikalsten members of his cabinet received their farewell, after which he took his dismissal.
