Jules Voncken

Jules Voncken (* 1887, † June 1975) was a Belgian military doctor in the rank of Major General and Chief of the military medical service of the Belgian armed forces ( " medical component "). He was co-founder and general secretary of the International Committee of Military Medicine ( ICMM ) in Liège.

Voncken, then still in the rank of Colonel and, met with the U.S. Navy Captain (MD) William Seaman Bainbridge 1920 at the 28th session of the Association of American military doctors AMSUS decided to found an international association for the military medical services of the nations. From this idea, the Standing Committee of the International Congresses of Military Medicine and pharmacy was founded on May 21, 1952 the name International Committee of Military Medicine was awarded in 1990. Voncken was from the time of the founding until his death, general secretary of the institution. According to him, the Jules Voncken price of the ICMM is named. From 1937 he was invited by the International Committee of the Red Cross as an expert member of the Commission for the revision of the Geneva Conventions of 1929.
