Jules Wijdenbosch

Jules Albert Wijdenbosch ( born 2 May 1941 in Paramaribo, Suriname ) is a Surinamese political scientist and politician; he was Premier and President of the Republic of Suriname.

Wijdenbosch studied political science and management economics at the University of Amsterdam. Subsequently he was a lawyer in Amsterdam. After his return to Suriname he turned to politics and was dated 12 February 1987 to January 25, 1988 for the first time Prime Minister of his country.

After the so-called telephone coup on December 24, 1990 under the military commander Desi Bouterse he was on January 7, 1991 to September 16, 1991 Vice - President of the country.

Reign 1996-2000

After the parliamentary elections of 1996 he dissolved on 14 September 1996 to August 12th 2000 Ronald Venetiaan from the President's Office. The premature end of his term was to look into the not -improving government debt and the accusation of private financial contributions by the Central Bank of Suriname. His popularity with the people, by the decision to build the first and only bridge over the Suriname in Paramaribo did no harm.
