Julia Phillips

Julia Phillips ( born April 7, 1944 in New York City as Julia Miller, † January 1, 2002 in West Hollywood, California ) was an American film producer. She was the first woman, who managed to win an Oscar as a producer for Best Picture.

Life

Phillips worked as a producer from 1972. Up to and including 1991 by establishing its participation under eight films.

In 1974 she was awarded the Academy Award for Best Picture, along with Tony Bill and her then-husband Michael Phillips. So she was the first woman to be awarded in this category with the Oscar. Three years later, she was nominated for Taxi Driver for the Oscar.

Her marriage to Michael Phillips lasted from 1966 until 1974. Together they had a child.

In 1991, she published with 'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again an autobiographical work about Hollywood. In this book they thematized their own drug use. Followed in 1995 with Driving Under Affluence a second book.

She died of cancer.
