Julian Fontana

Julian Fontana ( born July 31, 1810 in Warsaw, † December 23, 1869 in Paris) was a Polish pianist and composer.

Life

Fontana was the same with Frédéric Chopin, with whom he formed a lifelong friendship, a student of Józef Elsner. He joined the Polish November Uprising in 1832 and had to leave the country. Initially he lived in London as a piano teacher, he worked from 1844 to 1845 as a pianist and teacher in Cuba and to 1850 in the U.S. and then in Paris.

Fontana has composed numerous works for piano and some songs. Until his move overseas, he worked as a copyist for Chopin and gave after his death his works from the estate out.
