Julian Hunt, Baron Hunt of Chesterton

Julian Charles Roland Hunt, Baron Hunt of Chesterton FRS ( born September 5, 1941) is a British meteorologist. He was general manager of the Met Office.

Life

He is professor of climate modeling at University College London.

He studied at Trinity College, Cambridge and graduated in 1963 with " very good". In 1967 he received his doctorate in Cambridge on " Aspects of Magnetohydrodynamics ". He became a member of the Royal Society in 1989.

On 5 May 2000, he was raised as Baron Hunt of Chesterton for Life Peer. He is the father of the historian Tristram Hunt and deputies and the journalist Jemima Hunt.

Met Office

He was elected in 1992 as the successor of John Houghton General of the Met Office and was also in the central committee of the World Meteorological Organization. He was involved in the negotiation of international agreements on the exchange of data for ensuring the cooperation between the national meteorological services. He worked on the improvement of international Katastrofenwarnungen, of tropical cyclones to volcanoes. He actively pushed forward the cooperation in Europe and was elected Chairman of the Western European directors. One of his main tasks was the restructuring of the Met office, after it had become a Trading Fund and was obliged to close business principles z work. In 1997 he left the Met Office, his successor is Peter Ewins.

He warned that the number of Asian monsoons could rise significantly, if not efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions would be strengthened. He is a board of Cambridge Environmental Research Consultants Ltd..
