Julian Rosefeldt

Julian Rosenfeldt (born 1965 in Munich) is a German artist at the " interface between narrative film and complex film installation ".

Life

Julian Rosenfeldt initially studied architecture in Munich and Barcelona ( diploma 1994). After graduating graduation in 1994 he worked for several years with his former fellow students artistically Piero Steinle together, then since 1999 alone. Since 1997 represents Julian Rosenfeldt internationally, including at the Biennale of São Paulo (2004), the Athens Biennial (2007), at PS1 New York ( 1998), in the Kunst-Werke Berlin ( 2004), the Royal Academy of Arts London (2008) and the Kunstmuseum Bonn (2009), here the installation American Night.

Since Rosenfeldt in 1999 as Artist in Residence at the Sammlung Hoffmann came to Berlin, he lives and works there. His work is now represented in the most prestigious collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In addition to his own artistic work Rosenfeldt was there also always active artistic productions of the Schaubühne place, often in collaboration with the director and artistic director of the house of Thomas Ostermeier Meier. 2009 Rosenfeldt was appointed for one year as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Media Art and Media Design at the Bauhaus University Weimar. Since 2011 he is professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

In 2010, Rosenfeldt became a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in the Department of Film and Media Arts. On the art market Julian Rosenfeldt from the gallery Arndt (Berlin ), Max Wigram Gallery (London ) and the Barbara Gross Galerie (Munich ) is represented.

Work

Julian Rosefeldt's work consists mainly of elaborately staged film and video installations, most of which are created as a panorama -like multi-channel projections. But he also works photographically. In terms of cinematic works are his preferred recording media 16- mm film and 35mm film, Rosenfeldt worked closely with cinematographer Christopher Krauss for years.

Trivia

For the movie The International by Tom Tykwer in 2009 ( starring Clive Owen, Naomi Watts and Armin Mueller-Stahl in the lead roles ) was on the site of the Babelsberg film studios a faithful reproduction of the interior of the created by Frank Lloyd Wright Solomon R. Guggenheim museum built. Were recorded, the reconstructed rooms of the Museum with a retrospective of film installations Rosefeldt.
