Julian Schnabel

Julian Schnabel ( born October 26, 1951 in New York City, New York) is an American painter and film director.

Life and work

The son of Jewish parents, his father was a successful businessman who grew up in Brooklyn. 1965 moved his family, who also belong to two older siblings, to Brownsville (Texas ). After moving to the countryside Schnabel began to suffer from loneliness, sought solace in painting and spent the summer of 1969 in San Francisco.

Schnabel studied from 1969 to 1973 at the University of Houston in Texas. In the years 1973 and 1974 he attended the " Independent Study Program " at the Whitney Museum in New York.
