Juliane Kokott

Juliane Kokott ( born June 18, 1957 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German lawyer. She is the Advocate General at the European Court of Justice ( ECJ) and Adjunct Professor at the University of St. Gallen.

Life

Juliane Kokott studied law in Bonn and Geneva. Subsequently, she earned during a stay as a Fulbright scholar in the United States the academic degree of LL.M. at the American University, Washington, D.C. Parallel to this, she was an assistant to Thomas Buergenthal, a judge at the International Court of Justice; former President of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. The clerkship they took District Court Heidelberg with a station at the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe and a parallel employment at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law. It was followed by a Doctorate in Law. utr. at the University of Heidelberg with a thesis on "The Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights". Kokott also acquired the diploma of the Académie Internationale de Droit Constitutionnel in Tunis. As a wearer of the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society for young scientists led by another study in the USA and was awarded his doctorate by Harvard Law School Doctor of Juridical Sciences ( SJD ).

After her habilitation with right to teach German and Comparative Public Law, International Law and European Law at the University of Heidelberg, she taught at the University of Mannheim, the University of Augsburg and the University of Dusseldorf. From early 2000 until her election to the European Court they headed to the University of St. Gallen, the Institute for European Law, International Law and International Economic Law and held the appropriate department.

On 7 October 2003 Juliane Kokott stepped on a proposal from the German government as the third woman in the history of the European Court as Advocate General Siegbert Alber succeed at. In 2009 she was elected for another six years in office. They worked per year, about forty process and laid the foundation for a series of decisions of the European Court. So she pleaded in the proceedings on different insurance rates for men and women.

Kokott is a member of the Association of Female Lawyers Association and member of the Permanent Deputation of German Jurists Association.

In addition, she is involved eV for the German and European legal education and international understanding on the advisory board of ELSA Germany

Kokott is married and the mother of six children.
