Julie Covington

Julie Covington ( born September 11, 1947 in London) is a former English singer and actress.

Covington studied at Homerton College, Cambridge. Her career began when, after an appearance on the TV show by David Frost got a record deal in 1967.

In 1971, Covington's first commercially released album. A year later, she gave in London her debut as a stage actress, and in 1976 she celebrated her international breakthrough with the lead role in the television series rock Follies, together with her colleagues Rula Lenska and Charlotte Cornwell. The music for the series came from Roxy Music 's Andy Mackay.

Then she was invited by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, to sing the title role in the original studio recording of their musical Evita. With the single from the album Do not Cry for Me Argentina Covington landed an international number-one hit. In the stage musical she wanted but then not play because you did not suit the role for political reasons.

As rock Follies she had along with the above two singers plus Sue Jones -Davies shortly thereafter another top 10 hit in the UK.

The end of 1977 they had another chart success with the song Only Women Bleed, a cover version of the song by Alice Cooper.

After the release of a second album in 1978 and a few guest appearances on the albums of other artists such as Jeff Wayne 's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds Covington returned to the theater. In 1982, she played the lead role in the British film about the conflict in Northern Ireland in the shadow of memory, which won the Golden Bear at the Berlinale 1983.
