Julie Schmitt

Julie Schmitt ( born April 6, 1913 in Cham, after marriage Julie Knabel, † 10 December 2002 in Munich) was a German gymnast and Olympic champion.

At the Olympic Games 1936 Olympic team competition for gymnasts took place after 1928, for the second time. With the German team in the cast Gertrud Meyer, Erna citizens, Kate Sohnemann, Isolde Froelian, Anita Bärwirth, Paula Pöhlsen and Friedl Iby and Julie Schmitt, she won the gold medal with three points ahead of the team from Czechoslovakia.

( † September 30, 1982 born October 30, 1909) married Since March 9, 1936 Julie Schmitt with Hugo Knabel. From this marriage four children were born (Gerhard born January 6, 1937 Gertrud born December 16, 1937 Walter born September 21, 1942 Ilse * November 24, 1944 ).

Julie Schmitt retired after her Olympic success into private life, but remained the sporting activities in many ways true. She played successfully at the tennis club Pasing, drove ski race and climbed mountains to over 5000 meters (including Kilimanjaro ) in various regions of the world. The enthusiasm for mountaineering her survived into old age.
