Julie Taymor

Julie Taymor (* December 15, 1952 in Newton, Massachusetts) is an American film director.

Julie Taymor comes from a Jewish family. She is the daughter of a teacher of political science and a gynecologist. As a 15 -year-old she participated in theater workshops in Boston and studied before the age of 18 in Paris with Jacques Lecoq. She then attended from 1970 Oberlin College in Oberlin (Ohio ). After college graduation, she went to study on the Japanese island of Awaji -shima to expand their knowledge of experimental and visual theater.

Her breakthrough as a theater artist in Broadway experienced Taymor with the premiere of the musical The Lion King in 1997. For their staging and the costumes she was awarded with one Tony Award. In 2010 she directed the samples of the musical adaptation of Spider- Man: Turn Off the Dark on Broadway, but not in the premiere on 14 June 2011.

As a film director, she achieved international attention by their Shakespeare adaptation Titus with Anthony Hopkins in the title role. In 2005 she directed The Magic Flute for the Metropolitan Opera Mozart.

Julie Taymor has been more than 20 years in a relationship with the composer Elliot Goldenthal.

In 1991, she was MacArthur Fellow.
