Julio Herrera y Obes

Julián Basilio Herrera y Obes Martínez ( born January 9, 1841 in Montevideo, † August 6, 1912 ) was a Uruguayan politician, lawyer and journalist.

He belonged to the Partido Colorado and was 1872 Tomás Gomensoro Foreign Minister of Uruguay. He was sitting on 15 February 1873 to 19 January 1875 as deputy for the Department of Montevideo in the Cámara de Representantes. Then he was in exile until 1880. Julio Herrera y Obes was a consultant Máximo Tajes ', whom he succeeded as the first civilian president after the military dictatorship ( 1875-1890 ). He held the presidency from 1 March 1890 to 1 March 1894. During this time, the position of the executive over the legislature wanted to strengthen.
