Julius Brammer

Julius Brammer ( born March 9, 1877 in Sehraditz, Moravia (today: Sehradice in Zlín), † April 18, 1943 in Juan -les-Pins ) was an Austrian librettist.

Life

Julius Brammer, son of Hermann and Julie, born Pretty, attended secondary school, became an actor and appeared for the first time in Munich on Gärtnerplatztheater on. Later he moved to the Theater an der Wien, where he also appeared in operetta performances.

From 1908 he was almost just more than playwrights worked and wrote, often with Alfred Grünwald, numerous librettos for operettas by Leo Ascher, Eysler, Leo Fall, Emmerich Kálmán, Robert Stolz and Oscar Straus. He was one of the leading creators of the Silver operetta and was awarded the Order of Merit of the Republic of Austria. As a Jew he had with his wife after the Anschluss of Austria to the German Reich in 1938 into exile. At first he lived in Paris, after the occupation of France by the Germans in the Second World War, he fled to the unoccupied part of the country, to the Côte d' Azur.

In Vienna - Hietzing the Brammergasse was named after him in his memory in 1955.
