Julius Korir

Julius Korir (* April 21, 1960 in the District Nandi ) is a former Kenyan obstacle - and long-distance runner and Olympic champion.

He received international attention in 1982 when he surprisingly won the gold medal in the 3000 meters steeplechase at the Commonwealth Games. The following year, he improved his best performance, but was at the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki only seventh. When he won his semi-final in Los Angeles at the 1984 Summer Olympics, Korir was considered one of the favorites to win. In the final race, he pulled out a half lap before the finish unstoppable them and won the gold medal.

Due to an injury Korir missed the entire season in 1985. Afterwards he was ousted in his special discipline of younger runners from the national team.

Julius Korir visited the Kaptumo Secondary School in Kapsabet and began in the winter of 1983 with a degree from Washington State University.
