Julius Schulhoff

Julius Schulhoff ( born August 2, 1825 Prague, † March 13, 1898 in Berlin) was an Austrian pianist and composer.

Life

Schulhoff was in Prague student of Václav January Křtitel Tomasek. After first appearances in Dresden, he had lived since the mid-1840s in Paris and was initially primarily as a renowned piano virtuoso active. Successful concert tours to Spain, England and Russia followed. After a few years he gave his solo career, however, and turned entirely to teaching and to composition, first in Paris, from 1870 in Dresden and later in Berlin, where he was appointed before his death, professor one year. He was great-uncle of the composer Erwin Schulhoff.

From Schulhoff several compositions for the piano have survived, which are expected in part to lounge music, the musical quality is recognized. His final resting place is located on the southwest by reburial Stahnsdorf.
